LEYLAND P76 RUN TO SUTTONS FOREST 17th August 2008

Left Cootamundra at 5 to 8 with Gwen, Eddie and Leonie in Aspin Green Targa and Fred and Jimmy in the Bold as Brass V8.
Called into Yass to drop off my Mum and then I drove from Yass to Marulan, Fred was hot on my tail so I had to keep up the pace. Don’t let Fred or Jimmy tell you I drive fast, there is definitely no truth in it.
At Marulan, we met up with Alex Shoobridge & Family, Ray Douglas & Family plus Ruby (The Kangaroo) and Colin Minoge and partner .
The Leyland P76 Owners Club of NSW then met us and we proceeded on the Hume Highway to Sutton’s Forrest, with nineteen P76’s and one Marina on the highway they were certainly a great sight to see, with nearly every colour being represented. Two Targa Floro’s were represented, our Aspin Green, and Omega Navy.
At the Suttons Forest Inn, the cars were parked, and the photographer and journalist from Top Gear Australia Magazine, proceeded to do their job in photographing the cars, and interviews.
I was wrapped when I was asked to place the Targa for some photos.
Fun photos were done, with some of us lying on the ground in front of the cars, I wonder what the caption will read “P76 owners mass suicide after bad write up about their cars” and another one with members in the boot of the car, ”Boot full of P76 Cranks” also some serious shots.
Altogether a fun day was had by all who attended.
Thanks Steve for organizing it. It must have been such a great feeling to see the roll up of cars.
It was great also catching up with a members I had met with Michael at the Leyland P76 National in 2004.
Thanks also go to Leonie and Eddie for helping me get the Targa to Sutton’s Forest for the day,
The Targa is such a great car to drive, and I drive it proudly in Michael’s memory, he really loved his P76.
I now look forward to the October Top Gear Magazine, to read the report and see the photos and captions, and to catch up with fellow enthusiasts again soon...
Gwen Livingstone.
