Leyland Car Owners - Cracked Flex Plate

Just recently a club member had a very sharp tinkling noises from the back of the engine.
: It sounded to me to be like some thing was hitting the exhaust pipes (bell sound)
: He found that the problem was to do with the starter motor not disengaging from the flex ring gear.
: I thought it may have been a cracked flex plate.
: I was told this happens but never seen it until a member showed me the plate above.
: The crack goes right around the plate approxiamately were the washer sits with the bolts.
