In my experience there is no risk to you if you manage to get Targa mags which don't have any significant impact damage on then.
However, if all you want is nice wheels, all of the Ford 15 inch mags prior to the AU series will fit without clearance problems, providing the tyres you choose aren't outrageously wide.
The clearance problem with 14 inch mags is at the steering tie rod end. Inset on the 15 inch mags is a benefit for steering stability on bumps.
