Six Stuff # 1

Z23 Oil filter and replacement Z9

Another interesting point re oil filter for the six...
I remember in a club yearbook a few years ago there was a conversion to enable you to use to use Z9 filters on the six, by purchasing a ford part, quite cheap.
Very attractive as you can buy a six pack of Z9's for the price of a six filter.
As I am now a six owner and doing my first oil change, I rang up the ryco tech line to ask the difference between the ford Z9 and the leyland six filter the Z23.
They confirm there is a tube in the Z23 enable the filter to retain oil in it when the engine is off, this ensures you have a full filter on engine start up, a desireable situation Id say leading to adequate oil pressure on start up and engine protection.
The Z9 doesn't need this tube as it is mounted verticaly in the ford, while the Z23 is mounted horizontaly in the P76.
PS You can now buy the Z9s with the tube in them as the same as the Z23.
