Carl from South Australia
Comments from the Guest Book allows me to introduce Carl from Adeliade.
- Carl would like to correct the model range.
- I once owned an example of the 4th variant in the P76 range, known simply as "Leyland six" These were built in very few numbers early in the piece, and were equipped similarly to Holden's Belmont range of that era.
- What I can tell you at this stage is that the "Leyland 6" was intended at the fleet market,(like the Belmont) and some SA Govt departments used them.
- I believe they were only built in about the first 2 or 3 months run, before being discontinued.
- Lacking from all other Ps, was:
- door courtesy light switches,
- the option of floorshifts,
- the exterior chrome was limited,
- even when compared with the deluxe,
- and it was unique in that it did not have power brakes,
- although the discs were still fitted up front,
- and rode on 5" rims.
- Mine was white with black trim, column auto, build date, 5/73.
- Thats about all I can remember at this stage.
- Also, I find other P owners here in SA are surprised when they find out my present P is only a 6, and has 4 headlights. I guess 6cyl Supers are few & far between too! I'm including a snap of my present car, but she's in her sick bed at the moment, with a collapsed diff bearing, so I have to make do with driving my '98 Fairmont around for now.
- Just found the owner's manual from the earlier car. (didnt get one with the current car, so I kept this one)
- I took a scan of a couple of pages, which Im sending to you, and it shows of the existance of the "Leyland 6".
- I am trying to contact the person I sold the car to, and hope he still has it, and if so, will get some shots of it, and I'll make sure to get at least one of the badge on the front guard.
- Thanks too for giving me this opportunity to share this with the clubs.
- Thanks again for this opportunity to participate in your site, (I almost feel useful!!)
- As many people call out to me when I pass them in my P, "Motor on!"
- Regards,
- Carl
