Reduced gear shift movement 4 speed box
Question

- Can anyone recall?
- Years ago the Sydney boys modified the 4 speed gear shift mechanism so that the lever only had to move about half the distance it normally does to change gears.
- What was the mod?

- Hi Nigel,
- I had one of these in my car.
- The idea, I believe was also used on RS2000 escorts as a factory type of thing.
- A lot of people used to say that this gearbox was different to all other 2 litre escorts but the only difference is the shifter.
- You need to make a 40mm extension where the original hold down nut goes.
- Then you also need to machine the key clip groove 40mm higher on the gearstick.
- This changes the pivoting point of the gearstick.
- It is succesful but however there are a couple of down sides one being the constant rattles through the gear stitck at hi speed and the other being that the gear stick will eventually break through the new circlip groove as mine did.
- I decided a standard set up was the way to go.
- regards,
- Andrew
